                    The History of Hawa Children's Home

The Hawa Children’s Home,An orphanage and rescue centre for the boy child was founded in 1997 by PCEA St Andrews

The home functions under the leadership of a Board of Directors. It is registered under the Ministry of Gender and Children services. It seeks to improve the quality of life of boys with special needs in the community guided by the Children Act 2001 cap 101. Specifically the initiative targets to: achieve enhanced physical and psychological well- being for the boys, give the boys enhanced livelihoods and life skills, strengthen the capacity and ability of the program implementation team to deliver high quality services to the boys, and enhance the sustainability of the program in need of care and protection.

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in partnership with the Lions Club of Nairobi, Gigiri developed Hawa Children’s Home in Kitengela, Kajiado District Kenya The Home was established in 1997.

The home is designed to be assisting 500 people in the long term. It now has dormitories for 100 children, a multipurpose hall and modern housing for the employees. The home has 46 boys currently aged between 3-18 years some of whom are in secondary, colleges and universities. In order to have a separate legal status and identity, flexibility in fundraising activities, and professional management it was decided to separate the Home as a separate entity from the church. The Home is run by a Board of Directors the composition is as indicated above. In addition, it has a total of 7 staffs who reside at the Home a Social Worker (who oversees the home), Cooks, Housefathers, Firm and Chicken attendant, and a Watchman.
